Today, it seems as if everyone has some type of social media account on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or one of the other services that have sprung up in the past few years. Social media is a great way to connect with friends and loved ones, but many people do not know that it can be a great way to save money too. Many companies are harnessing the power of social media to reach vast numbers of consumers and often extend special offers to entice potential customers. Here are some great money saving tips for social media users to take advantage of.

Add Favorite Stores To Social Media Accounts To Receive Special Deals

One of the best money saving tips for social media users is to like or follow your favorite stores on social media to gain access to exclusive deals. Many stores and restaurants will post coupons and sales on social media before email newsletters or their website. This gives you first crack at the discounts and a better chance of scoring the deal before what you want is sold out.

Check For Special Offers Before Heading Out

Companies have found that a good way to generate buzz on social media is to frequently post limited time only deals. Check for recently posted deals for specific items before heading out to the location. For Twitter and Instagram, you can use hashtags to tailor your search and bring up a list of real-time results that includes those terms.

Take Advantage Of Discount Codes

Discount codes are everywhere on the internet and it should be a crime to not take advantage of them. Some companies offer discount codes on social media just for liking their Facebook page or signing up for their email or text alerts. Discount codes can also be found through deal bloggers that promote different deals, sales, and coupons available at various retailers.

Learn New Money Saving Tips From Experts

Expert money saving tips for social media users are easy to find on the most popular social media channels. Some finance experts host regular discussions on social media about topics such as saving money while shopping, renting versus buying, or eliminating debt. You can use their wisdom for everything from developing a more frugal lifestyle to increasing your income to secure financial stability.

Sign Up For A Referral Program

If you have a large social media following, it could be worthwhile to sign up for some of the numerous referral programs available. Companies can easily track how many people signed up or made a purchase because of you due to the unique link provided by the program. You could earn money or free products simply by adding a link to some of your social media postings.

Enter To Win Free Stuff

Brands often use social media to host sweepstakes and give away prizes to loyal fans. Most make entry simple by allowing you to click on a link to submit an entry using the information on your social media account. You can win anything from gift certificates to products to free travel through these types of contests.

  1. Very good tips. One thing I would make sure is to start off small. If you think that using social media is a great idea, don’t start following 50 brands or stores all at once. You’ll end up getting overwhelmed. Go for 1-2 places at a time, and get used to integrating them into your shopping experience before pursuing others. Move too fast and you might end up giving up on the whole thing before you really get a chance to use this strategy to your benefit.

Such a great point. I know that I’ve been overwhelmed before by them. I’m not much of a shopper, but I periodically do a pretty big update shop and then I’ll come home and sign up for all of the loyalty programs. You end up with so many emails that either you get annoyed and cancel them altogether or you filter them over to some special folder that has so many emails in it that it’s outright unwieldy.

Definitely have to be careful lol.
