This is a great post. If more people applied your tips, looked for grants and worked their way through college, there would be less debt. I know those that do finish stronger and more appreciative of what they have. Plus it looks much better to prospective employers.

Turing down your hot water heater to 120 is also a good idea. You don't need water to go all the way up to 140 and it costs a lot more to keep those useless 20 degrees.

I'm a big fan of working through college. If you have the discipline to hang out in bars responsibly bartending or bouncing can be a great way to combine making money, having fun and not spending money through college. I bounced and then bartended through college 4 nights per week and came out in great financial shape with a fantastic work ethic.

The FHA program is great for people who sub par credit scores. Their PMI is also going to be lower than a conventional loan.

This is very good advice and sorely needed by car buyers. People love cars, but hate the whole car buying experience. Using the internet at home and getting quotes is an ideal way of reducing the stress while also getting the very best price. Congrats on your deal, incidentally, I also bought a 2011 Sonata and have been quite pleased so far.

All budgeting newbies (including myself) seem to forget the importance of step #1: tracking all expenditures. My fiance had this general idea of where all his money went when he was trying to figure out what his monthly max car payment could be. Turns out, he completely forgot to factor in food and gasoline expenses into his budget and that put him in the negative.

I like the 3-step structure you wrote about: Track, Plan, and Tackle... it's so simple!

I had an accident while riding my bicycle and a car 10+ years ago. The driver had no insurance, but I had uninsured motorist coverage. It was a good thing because I broke my collar bone and needed medical attention. In addition, my bike was damaged and I needed physical therapy.

Great post! I have to agree with you. There's no point in living life just for the sake of living. I want to contribute something in this world.
By the way, this is my first time on your blog. I love your blog design!

Banking is a prime example of an industry where technology has not improved customer service. In my small town when I called they knew my voice even before I identified myself. Now I have to press 1, enter a passcode, stay on hold, show my ID, swipe my card, etc. It has not improved service it has turned me into a number.
