Yakezie Network

Surplus wealth is a sacred trust which its possessor is bound to administer in his lifetime for the good of the community.

- Andrew Carnegie

The community which has neither poverty nor riches will always have the noblest principles.

- Plato

Hard to believe it’s been a full year since I first joined the Yakezie Challenge.  Coming a long way since it’s inception, this network of personal finance bloggers has expanded into a broad & influential community.

So what exactly separates us from other groups?  There’s tons of personal finance websites and networks already out there, but none which promote selflessness so vigorously.  Individually we each have limits to the extent of our readership.  While the information is still out there, the message ends with the last reader.

One of the key principles, all of the 100+ contributors rely on each other to help reach as many readers as possible – both within the personal finance community and those not yet introduced to it.

By focusing on promoting others and not ourselves, we’ve developed a community whereby

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

- Artistotle

Imagine a network tree where 1 friend tells 5 friends who go tell another 5 friends.  Before you know it, you’ve reached 100 people.  Now imagine that same network, but with 1 friend telling 100 friends, and then each of those friends telling another 100 to 1,000+ friends!

The power of networking is truly exponential.

The premise of helping others has taken on a life of it’s own with the launch of the Yakezie Scholarship.  Something many personal finance bloggers believe in, education plays a vital role in future successes throughout life.  While the resources are out there, they may not be readily available to everyone.  Scholarships are one way of connecting those people to those resources.

If you’ve ever volunteered, you’d know taking time & energy away from yourself and redirecting it towards others can seem daunting at first, but is truly rewarding and satisfying in the end.

We’ve all come a long way, it’s amazing. It’s about staying consistent. If we comment or RT just one blog a day for 365 days, we undoubtedly will build relationships with many folks and build our own blogs as well.

Yakezie Scholarship essays going up Monday, December 13th!

    Cheers,

    Sam

  2. What’s the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”. Perhaps we can think of the Yakezie as our own personal village and the scholarship recipients as our own children.
