How to Avoid International Credit Card Fees

How to Avoid International Credit Card Fees

Due to the recent market woes, travel is getting cheaper. This is making that next vacation a much more attractive possibility, and it absolutely should! While flights and hotels being cheaper can help out quite a bit, a big trap people fall into on vacation is spending while you’re there. Not only can restaurants and shops be expensive, but fees from your bank or creditor can make it even worse. As a result, it is vital to decrease those fees as much as you can, and there are a couple of ways to do this. One way is to try to work it out with your current bank or creditor. While this often won’t work, some firms may be willing to help if you spend a lot. The other way to avoid international credit card fees is to get a card that just doesn’t have them.

To help you decide which will be best for you, we will be checking out a video from popular travel creator, Here Be Barr. Most of the cards in this video have no foreign transaction fees, and they even come with major perks! Here Be Barr makes it pretty easy to tell what card is best for you.

In Summary

So there are pretty great options no matter how specific you’re looking to get. Most of these cards will help you avoid international credit card fees, and there is so much more to be had with them! All it really depends on are your spending habits, your travel needs, and your preferred providers for credit, flights, and hotels. This video lays it out pretty cleanly for you and will help you decide which is best for you. Now, they each have different requirements regarding your credit score. As with anything, the better the perks, the higher the requirements.

Be sure to check with your local bank on specific coverage areas. There are some exceptions, i.e., if you use your Barclays card in one country, there might not be a fee, but in another, there may be. Other fees, such as an international transaction or foreign currency fee, may also still apply so double-check before you go!
