For almost any quality item, there’s usually a cheaper version available. While there’s often no significant difference between the two, sometimes there is one.
In those cases, it’s often worth paying extra for the better version. Following are several examples many agree on.
Trash Bags

Cheap trash bags are more likely to tear. That’s not something you want to deal with when you’re taking a bag out to your trash bin.
Winter Gear

Winter clothing and other gear can get pretty expensive, but it has an important job to do. If cost is a concern, try finding good winter gear on sale instead of buying lower-cost brands that aren’t as good.
Cookware

Quality pots and pans heat more evenly and last longer. They’re also unlikely to be coated with PFAs, chemicals linked to liver damage, thyroid disease, cancer, and other maladies.
Bras

Better bras offer women more comfort and better support. Just be aware that some expensive bras are priced for their sexiness, not their quality, so know what you’re paying for.
Bedsheets

Spend the extra money on better sheets and pillowcases; you’ll appreciate the comfort and that they last longer. Cheap sheets can even make your skin itchy or sweaty.
Running Shoes

You’ll get better performance, comfort, and durability from premium running shoes. They’ll also better protect your ankles and knees from injuries and wear & tear.
Headphones

Cheap headphones and this includes earbuds, don’t last long and often have quality shortcomings. For instance, the sound might not be as clear as it could be, and they can be prone to one or both not working on and off.
Socks

Socks aren’t all that expensive in most cases, so it makes sense to buy better ones. Your feet will be more comfortable, and the socks will last longer before they develop thin spots and holes.
Rain Jackets

A nice waterproof jacket isn’t cheap, but it’s worth the money. Ask anyone who’s ever worn a cheap one during a heavy downpour.
Mattresses

People aren’t too happy when it’s time for a new mattress; they’re expensive and difficult to transport and move around. Good mattresses are much better for your back, though, and you’ll sleep better. Plus, they last longer, so it’ll be longer until the next replacement.
Toilet Paper

Some people say it’s wasteful to buy thick, expensive toilet paper. However, when you buy the cheap stuff, you end up using way more of it, so you’re really not being more economical. Also, that thin toilet paper tends to be abrasive in a bad place for that.
Tires

Better-quality tires have several benefits. They include better gas mileage, more longevity, better handling in all road conditions, and more resistance to punctures.
Work Boots

In general, it’s smart to pay the money for good footwear of any variety. It’s especially important if you wear work boots, though. You need durable boots that also protect your feet and provide comfort for long hours.
Writing Pens

Inexpensive pens get the job done. However, when you spend more on a nicer pen, you’ll notice a real difference in how it feels and how smoothly it writes. If you write by hand a lot, this is a good investment.
Cleaning Products

Do cheap dish soap and other cleaning products really save that much money? When you consider that it’s not as effective as better products are and that you, therefore use more of it, they probably don’t save all that much.
Steak

When you just need to make dinner for the family, it makes sense to buy an inexpensive cut of meat or a lower-quality grade. If it’s a special occasion, though, there’s a huge difference in flavor and texture when you buy prime grades and nicer cuts.
Backpacking Gear

Backpacking can mean being on the trail for days or even weeks at a time. You don’t want to be 10 miles from the trailhead and discover that your pack hurts your back, your tent leaks, your sleeping bag isn’t very warm, etc.
Laptops

You don’t need to buy the fanciest, priciest laptop. However, you should avoid buying cheap ones and should be careful about refurbished ones. The less you spend, the less performance and reliability you’re going to get.
Contraceptives

This might sound like a joke, but if you use contraception, don’t use the cheap stuff. It’s not as effective, and having a child is a lot more expensive than paying for effective contraception.
Toothbrushes

You can always find cheap toothbrushes, and they work for the basics. However, better toothbrushes last a lot longer and clean more thoroughly and effectively.
