We are all looking for ways of putting extra money into our pockets, and doing side hustles is the way to go. However, almost everywhere you look (especially online) seems to be flooded with people offering or seeking to offer similar services, and this greatly affects your earning potential.
It can be discouraging. But before you give up, here are some of the not-so-saturated side hustle ideas you could try today.
Become a Handyman
You may have to look harder for low-saturation areas and do not be afraid of getting your hands dirty if you want to become a handyman. Some handymen gigs can pay u to $80/hr depending on where you live. You may need some money to start off when creating a handyman business. You need basic tools and business cards for advertising. Ask people to hire you. Ask local restaurants and coffee shops if you can leave some cards there, post on Facebook that you’re looking for work, etc.
Take the easy jobs. Assembling Ikea furniture pays the same as remodeling a bathroom. Set your hourly rate, and don’t accept less.
Gutter Cleaning and Cleaning Grease Traps
Gutter cleaning and cleaning grease traps are considered to be ‘dirty’ jobs, but if you do not mind the dirt, you can make a fortune. Most restaurants have grease trap problems. Look for gutter cleaning jobs at homes built around trees. Leaves accumulate in the roof gutter and interfere with the water flow.
Ask Old People for Yard Work
Old people love to see your people working in the yard. It reminds them of how they started out. Knock on a few doors and offer to do yard work for a fee. Remember to quote your hourly price in advance. Advertise your business in newspapers and senior citizen centers.
Do Electrical Work
Consider an apprenticeship in a trade like electrical. You can make decent money and set your hours after the paid training period. Doing electrical repairs or installations in homes can be very lucrative.
Resell Walmart Clearance
Check the Walmart stores around town. You can get the clearance stuff off the shelves and sell it on Amazon for its normal retail price. If you do this frequently, you can make a decent living. You may need some capital upfront for this business.
Focus On Your Ability
Turn your strength into an income-generating venture. Focus on one ability or skill you are very confident and passionate about and would be able to sit down for hours to study, practice, and drill to get better at. Then, find a way to make money out of this ability.
Lend Services, Systems, or Your Own Product
Look to start your own business with low costs. Find clientele in what you are good and confident in. A good example is lending audio equipment to parties and/or DJ/sound tech or lighting.
Become a Sports Referee/Ump
Every single rec sports league is looking for referees and ump. They pay between 10-30$ an hour depending on the sports.
Become a Lifeguard
You will need certification from the Red Cross for this, but if you can pull it off, there is demand for lifeguards out there.
Web Development for Niche Markets
You can make really good money doing web development for niche markets that are not being done by low-end designers or doing sales for SaaS solutions.
Computer Repair Service and Building New Set UPS
People love computers, but they do not know how to repair them when they get broken. You could charge decent money for building new setups and ‘servicing’ computers you have already sold.
Become a Freelance Cameraman
Sign up on websites like Stringr to become a freelance cameraman to shoot and sell videos. You get texted an assignment based on your location, and you either accept it or not. You shoot the videos and upload them, and if they are used, you get whatever amount was agreed upon.
Washing and Detailing Cars
You could make a grand a month working weekends washing and detailing cars in your neighborhood. This is a scalable business where you could buy a van and move around offering such services to people who cannot come to your location.
Become a Caddy
If you live in an area close to high-end golf courses, caddying is a great option. The average pay for a caddy in the northeast US is about $300 for 5 hours of work, though that’s pretty much the same everywhere as the wealthy tend to travel.
Appliance Repair
Learn how to repair appliances and set up a great side hustle business where people call you to their homes to fix faulty appliances. Bolt on, bolt off. Not everybody wants to risk doing it themselves on an expensive Washer and dryer, and they will gladly pay for the repair.
