7 Expenses That Even Frugal People Agree Are Worth It

Published:

Frugal people aren’t big fans of excessive spending, but even they have to admit that spending on these seven things is well worth the cost.

1. Legal Advice

This might be a curveball as the first expense on the list, but frugal people would agree: if you need legal advice, now is not the time to cut corners. It’s not like every lawyer is worth the high price. But if it comes highly recommended but could potentially be too expensive, frugal people will still shell out the money to make it happen.

2. Vacations

On the other side of the coin, we have vacations. They’re one of the most frivolous things you can spend your money on. Yet, frugal people understand the value of getting away and having fun. It’s not like they won’t find ways to spend money along the way, but they’re never going to say spending on vacation is a waste of money.

3. Home Security

If you don’t feel safe in your home, it’s worth investing money to ensure you do. Frugal people will find less expensive approaches to this; they’d instead put up a fence than install a full-blown security system. But that doesn’t mean they don’t know the value of feeling comfortable at home. It’s certainly a feeling you can’t put a price on.

4. Good Food

This expense doesn’t mean spending money on prime rib dinners; it means spending on food that nourishes your body and keeps you healthy. Frugal people know how to shop for this food without going broke, mainly focusing on buying fruits, vegetables, and dry goods rather than brand-name fad foods. Still, they won’t shy away from spending extra on quality food.

5. Health and Wellness Expenses

You only get one body, so spending money on your health is one of the best investments you can make. Frugal people know the best way to save money is by taking a preventative approach to your health. But they’d never shy away from spending if it meant their health or comfort was on the line. This includes health insurance like dental and vision insurance because frugal individuals know there’s no turning back once your teeth or eyes start to go.

6. Quality Electronics

This one might seem odd, too, because you’d think that frugal people would find electronics to be a waste of money. But we’ve reached a point where things like phones and TVs are integral to our daily lives. And if there’s anything a frugal person believes, it’s investing in something well-made, even if it’s more expensive, since it’s much more likely to last longer and perform better.

7. Quality Clothes and Shoes

It’s the same concept as with electronics; buying higher quality shoes and clothes means you’ll get more mileage out of them. We’ve all bought ten-dollar jeans from a fast fashion store and regretted it when it didn’t last more than a few months. Frugal people would much rather spend five times that to ensure an article of clothing that lasts them years.

Many of today’s grandparents had parents or grandparents who lived through the Great Depression. They adopted many of the frugal living tips they learned and passed them on to their own children.

Grandkids sometimes think that they know everything and that their grandparents are out of touch with today’s world and reality. And while there might be a kernel of truth to that, grandparents still have a wealth of knowledge that can really help. They may need to be tweaked to fit the current world but they are still valuable.
