A lot of people seem to be struggling with finances nowadays, and we get it. The cost of living has gone through the roof recently, and things are not as they used to be a few years ago.

This is just how the story goes, and the reality may get a little darker when we think of some of the things we’ve had to give up because we simply can’t afford them anymore. Here is a list of things that were affordable for all classes of folks 50 years or more ago, but now only the wealthy or financially savvy can afford them.

We all know how expensive it is to raise children in the 21st century. There are daycare costs, for starters, and then there are all the other little things that total to exuberant amounts. Nowadays, you’d be lucky if you can afford to have two children.

Back in the good old days, it was normal to have four kids and live a comfortable life. Anyone having four kids today and living a comfortable life of plenty haves has gotta have some serious coin to keep that up.

Did you know that lobster used to be a popular food for prisoners? Yup, lobster was considered to be the “poor person’s chicken.” Nowadays, only those with some serious dough can afford to enjoy this delicacy.

Healthcare that covers all your medical expenses, including childbirth, surgery, dental, and imaging costs, is not cheap! Nowadays, this is reserved for the wealthy.

If you want to enjoy a restaurant meal today, you’re looking at around $50 a head. Back in the day, folks could enjoy visiting restaurants regularly. Nowadays, you’ll be lucky if it happens once or twice a week.
