There are many ways this can happen, and what destroys one person’s happiness may not affect someone else. It’s important to avoid the many pitfalls that can cause a major decline in one’s enjoyment of life.

Having Unrealistic Expectations

If your expectations are just too high, you’re setting yourself up to fail. No one can meet impossible standards, and no situation is going to be perfect. Be prepared but hopeful to stay happy.

Comparing Yourself to Others

This is one of the most common sources of unhappiness. You can love your life one minute and then see how someone else lives and start to hate your life. Don’t let this happen. Determine your standards instead of taking them from others.

If you’ve lost a loved one, you still have love for that person, but the love has nowhere to go. It can be devastating to lose someone, and some people never get over the loss.

Worrying Too Much

Some worry is necessary to keep you prepared for bad things happening. It can help you avoid problems in many cases. However, excess worry is simply toxic, and it eats away at your happiness.

This can be an incredibly stressful position to be in. If you’re trying to make a hard decision, it’s usually best to go with your instincts. Staying in limbo for a long time will drain your energy and happiness.

If there is a complete opposite of happiness, it would be depression. Depression is an extremely common mental illness that can keep you unhappy with everything indefinitely without treatment.

These are terrible emotions that can mentally torture you for a long time. If you feel ashamed of yourself, it can be hard to move forward or to have hope for the future. If you’re embarrassed about something, you may be scared all the time that someone will talk about it.

Being Poor or Broke

Life can seem bleak when you have no choices ahead of you. Poor is often said to be a mindset, and broke is said to be a situation. In either case, it’s hard to be happy.

If you’ve been going at top speed for a long time, you may eventually develop burnout. At that point, you’d rather do anything than the things you have to do that caused the burnout. Unfortunately, this often means having great difficulties at work.
