When women get married for the first time, their age is likely to be different depending on which state they live in. It’s common for women to be in their 20s when they first get married. Just a few states have an average age of 30 or more for a first marriage.

These are the states where women are the oldest when they first get married.

Sure, it isn’t quite a state, but it does have the highest average age for women as they get married for the first time. According to Overflow Data, at 30.7 years old, Washington women want to be good and ready before they walk down the aisle.

New York

Women in New York are nearly as old as in D.C. when they get married for the first time. They average 30.6 years of age for that first wedding. Getting married late is a part of the culture in New York, so it’s no surprise that people wait so long.

Rhode Island

The smallest state has one of the highest ages for a first marriage for women. With an average age of 30.5, the women of this state are careful about tying the knot.

In this seaside state, women aren’t making the marriage decision lightly. They wait until they’re in their 30s, on average. The average first marriage age for women there is 30.4 years old.
