The Approval Ratings of 15 World Leaders

World leaders always have their followers- and they always have their detractors. The ratio between the two groups can vary wildly depending on the leader in question. Some are certainly much more popular than others.

According to Visual Capitalist, this is how various leaders from countries around the world are viewed by their citizens

India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is highly popular in his homeland. Among the Indian people, 77% of the populace approves of him. Only 5% have no opinion. A mere 17% disprove of him.

Mexico

The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, also has a pretty high approval rating from his country. About 64% of people approve of him while fewer than half of that number, 20%, disapprove of him.

Switzerland

The former president of the Swiss Federation, Alain Berset, has a decent approval rating compared to many other leaders. A full 57% of the people approved of him, while 34% disapproved.

Poland

Poland is in the unusual position of having exactly half the population see its leader favorably. While 50% approve of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, 41% of the people disapprove of the job he’s doing.

Brazil

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, has the approval of 47% of the population. It also has the disapproval of 43%. About 10% of the population has no opinion on the matter.

Australia

In Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has nearly as many people disapproving of his performance as people who approve of it. About 45% of the people approve of him while 43% disapprove.

Italy

Prime Minster Giorgia Meloni has an image problem with more people disapproving of her than approving. About 44% of Italians approve of her while 50% disapprove of her performance.

Spain

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is the leader of a lot of unhappy people. Only 38% of his country’s population approves of his performance. A full 58% of them disapprove. Only 4% have no opinion.

United States

President Joe Biden has a poor approval rating that has only gotten poorer during his time in office. Those who disapprove of him make up 55% of the country while those who approve make up only 37%.

Canada

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada has the disapproval of 60% of the country. Those who approve of him make up just 35% of the population. About 4% of people have no opinion.

Sweden

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has an approval rating that could definitely be better. Only 33% of Swedes approve of his performance. About 56% of them disapprove. Those with no opinion make up 11%.

United Kingdom

Rishi Sunak is the current prime minister of the U.K., and things could be better in the polls. He has an approval rating of just 27%. However, those who disapprove make up 63% of the people.

France

Emmanuel Macron is the president of France, and things aren’t looking up for him. He’s earned the approval of only 24% of the country. Meanwhile, he’s drawn the ire of 68% of the population.

South Korea

President Yoon Suk Yeol is fighting for his career in the face of an extremely low approval rating. He has the approval of just 20% of the population while a massive 71% disapprove of him.

Germany

Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, ties with the leader of South Korea with an approval rating of a mere 20%. However, even more disapprove of him, with a whopping 76% disapproving of the job he’s doing.
