3 Outdated and Overdone Bathroom Design Trends That Are No Longer Trending

One could say that bathrooms are equal parts utility and sanctuary. Essentially, they’re the place where you can light a candle and wind down from a long day, but at the same time, it’s the exact spot where most of your grooming and getting ready for your day (or bed) happens. In terms of aesthetics, we do want our bathrooms to feel welcoming and serene, but, at the same time, they need to be functional.

Yes, everyone may have their own unique style- including color palettes and other unique features that they feel enhance their overall bathroom look. But let’s face it: everything has a time and a place, and some of these bathroom trends have overstayed their welcome. Here, we have curated a list of bathroom design trends that have already aged badly or are bound to do so in the near future.

The All-White Bathroom

Just in case you missed this memo, all-white bathrooms are on their way out. Due to its sanitary appearance and neutral appeal, white tones have outranked many other colors on bathroom color scheme lists in the past, but all of that is changing now. It may be a classical choice, but some experts have warned that white hues have a clinical look, which takes away from the overall bathroom aesthetic and, of course, the coziness of this self-care space.

Earthy tones like soft browns or creams may create a more cushy place for you to start and end your day. For an effortless update, one could opt for natural or warm-hued towels. Or, if you have more cash to go around, why not go for a bathroom vanity in a tone of your choice – this is bound to turn a bland bathroom into a more lively space.

Trendy Tiles

There’s nothing wrong with a good set of bathroom tiles, but the eccentric styles and layouts that have been trending so hard of late may be dated in a couple of years. It may be better to consider a more neutral color scheme and tile layout when it comes to installing tiles in your bathroom.

If you are absolutely deadset on a certain zany style, then maybe you can do only one wall at first. This ensures a decor dose, and it will be much easier to update when a new style comes along.

Carpeted Flooring

We all know how terrible it is to step onto a cold floor when leaving the shower or bathtub. So, we totally get why carpeted flooring became popular in bathrooms in the first place. It should be noted, though, that there’s one major flaw with this bathroom installation: hygiene. It’s known that keeping carpets clean is a formidable task, and that gets even harder when, over time, there are many splashes of water involved.

Moreover, dense fibers are pretty difficult to clean if you can’t simply throw them into a washing machine. The safest bet here is a tiled floor with an accompanying bathroom rug for an underfoot feel for those who hate stepping onto a cold bathroom floor. This is a much more hygienic option, plus it looks better and may even be a lot cheaper in the long run, as tiles are far more durable than a built-in carpet.
