Sometimes, things are framed in a way that makes them essentially propaganda. Often, these don’t seem like propaganda because everyone hears them all the time. However, much of the time, we’re spreading propaganda without even knowing it.

Talk about how we need to change how the Earth is treated by humans, and being concerned about the rise in temperatures is reasonable. Talk about how all humans will be dead in a few years is propaganda. Many people are so used to the propaganda that they start to believe the most dramatic talk.

 

News That’s Biased

There are many news sites that present their news only from one specific angle. This doesn’t give people a rounded idea of each story and pushes people into a single opinion about the stories.

Politics is carefully crafted to elicit certain responses, and that goes double for today’s talking points. Those tend to be professionally written and fed to the public to promote certain politicians or political parties.

People complain a lot about the “manosphere,” but there’s just as much of a problem with the opposite propaganda. Any talk that demonizes the other sex and seems to have great proof behind it is cherry-picking information and spreading propaganda.

 

Milk Is Great for You

Milk has been found to be unhealthy on a lot of levels, though it does have some good nutrients in it. Those nutrients have been used for years by the milk industry to say that milk is a necessary part of everyone’s diet.

 

Internet Memes

They’re short, quippy, and easy to remember. That’s the perfect description of propaganda. It isn’t just people having a good time that release memes. They come from a lot of politicians, industries, and corporations as well.

 

The Culture War

The fact that there’s a culture war at all is the result of a lot of propaganda. Demonizing another political party or fandom or group of any kind is a way to divide people, and it’s unnecessary.

 

The U.S. Military in Movies

There’s a long-standing program that allows the U.S. military to cooperate with movies that portray the military in a positive light. Of course, the military does have some say on that portrayal. This practice is often called militainment.

 

Air Shows

Why is so much money and so much risk taken to put on air shows? They’re recruitment tools for the Air Force. They show people the excitement of flying and encourage them to look into that branch of the military.

 

Breakfast Being the Most Important Meal of the Day

This idea was put together by cereal companies to encourage everyone to eat more of their product. It’s not a big deal for most people to skip breakfast, and some people don’t want to eat as soon as they get up. They’ll live.

 

The Food Pyramid

The four food groups were replaced by the food pyramid so that grain companies could emphasize the importance of eating them. They worked closely with the FDA and had a lot of input into what the pyramid eventually looked like.

 

Political Parties

Another way to divide people, the parties tend to carefully craft a specific type of personality so that people identify with one of them. The purpose of their propaganda is for people to believe that part of their personality is just the political party itself.

 

The War on Drugs

As more and more states legalize or decriminalize propaganda, it’s easy to forget that the War on Drugs was largely a push against marijuana. This program classified every illegal drug as being highly dangerous and immoral. Today, there are serious drugs on the street, and they don’t have the same effects as others.

 

Military Flyovers at Sports Events

Why would so much time and expense be spent to fly over a sporting event? You guessed it- it’s another recruiting tool for the U.S. military. Seeing the excitement of those flyovers does cause some people to look into joining up.

Is there any clearer propaganda than having children pledge their allegiance to the flag every day? Children don’t generally understand what they’re pledging, but they soon get used to doing it every day.
