Brits love their hobbies, and many people have made it a resolution at the beginning of 2024 to engage in their hobbies more. Some hobbies are perfect for relaxing and wanting something engaging to do. Free time can be made much more enjoyable when you do a favorite hobby.

Adobe Express conducted a survey of 2,000 UK adults to conclude the most popular hobbies UK adults are turning to in 2024 to help them relax and unwind, as well as how creative they see themselves as.

To do this, they conducted a survey of 2,000 UK respondents, asking questions such as ‘Which of the following hobbies or pastimes do you enjoy/undertake regularly to relax or unwind?’, ‘Have you ever taken up a new hobby as part of a New Year’s Resolution?’, and ‘On a scale of 1 to 10, how creative would you class yourself as?’. The survey data was then analyzed and organized, and demographics were also analyzed.

These hobbies are the ones Brits most prefer when they have some downtime.

Reading

Reading is the most popular hobby of relaxing Brits. About 35% of them engage in this hobby regularly. Reading is a great way to spend free time and can help people learn as well as entertain them when they want an escape.

Walking

About 30% of Brits choose to go walking when they have free time. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise, and it’s a great chance to clear your mind and come up with creative ideas. It’s low-impact and can be done anywhere for a gentle workout.

Cooking and Baking

This is a useful hobby as well as a relaxing one. Many people love to get into the kitchen and try their hands at new ideas or to make established favorites. It’s a hobby that benefits everyone in the household. Among Brits, about 29% engage in this as a hobby.

Solo Sports and Playing an Instrument

It can be incredibly relaxing to play an instrument and hear yourself getting better and better at it. Solo sports are also engaging, and they’re good for your health. Both of these hobbies see about 25% of Brits engaging in them.

Journaling

As a part of wellness, many people practice daily journaling. This can be a great way to process emotions and remember the ups and downs of life. It can be a way to work out problems and come up with new ideas. About 22% of people in Great Britain journal regularly.

Writing

With writing, all things are possible. You can create anything you like, even whole new worlds. at the same time, writing and living a million adventures. For relaxation, about 20% of Brits love to write regularly and create works from their imaginations.

Team Sports

For those who love being a part of a team, playing team sports is a great way to be a part of something. It’s also fantastic exercise and can even improve mood. Among Brits, 18% love to get out there on the pitch, field, or court to get together and play as a team.

It doesn’t get much more creative than creating works of art. Drawing, illustrating, and creating other types of artwork is challenging but a lot of fun. It can be a great way to let go of stress, and it’s exciting to get better at this hobby that 18% of Brits do in their free time.

Sewing, Knitting, and Crocheting

Few hobbies are as useful as these. If you can sew, there’s no end to the things you can make. From clothing to drapes, the sky is the limit. Knitting and crocheting also give you the ability to make a wide range of items. About 17% of Brits have taken up these hobbies.

Design work can also be highly useful. There are many things you can design for fun just like 15% of Brits do. You may do graphic design, design websites, create logos, or any other type of design work that’s fun while you have free time. This can also become a side business for some people.
