There are both external threats and internal threats that could pose serious problems to the country. When you think of the biggest threats, you may think about asteroids and comets that could burn it to the ground.
However, there are plenty of threats that are already around us that could harm the country.
Poor Education

If education slides, everything goes down with it. Without a decent educational system, there won’t be new engineers, doctors, scientists, etc. We’ll also have a populace who doesn’t understand how to solve problems and handle their lives.
Misinformation

Sure, it’s a buzzword, but it’s also a threat to everyone in the U.S. When people make up facts, there’s a certain percentage of the population who will unquestioningly believe it. These false beliefs often work their way into other facets of society.
Poor Diet

Obesity is a major cause of death in the U.S., and the numbers aren’t getting any better. Eating a poor diet leaves many Americans at risk for early death as well as tired and unable to think clearly.
China

The U.S. may have the biggest economy in the world, but China is second and gaining fast. We’re incredibly reliant on the things they make for us. Losing China as a trade partner would be devastating to the U.S.
Identity Divisions

Americans are putting themselves into identity boxes more and more, and that means no more unified society. The divisions allow Americans to fight amongst themselves so politicians can do what they like without much scrutiny. United we stand, divided we fall.
Gluttony

As a society, the U.S. is one of the more gluttonous in the world. Americans eat an incredible amount of meat and use disposable items daily. Their poor diets and need to consume more and more have left people poor and sick.
Apathy

We’re all busy, and our lives are complicated. There isn’t room for a lot of activity outside of work/school and raising a family. This has made many people apathetic to things they believe don’t affect their lives. This often includes politics and thinking critically about what they read.
Political Corruption

Sure, some countries have more corrupt governments than ours, but that gap is closing. From stock buying to appointing committee members with a conflict of interest, there’s a lot of corruption to go around in D.C.
Widening Gap Between Rich and Poor

What makes a third-world country third-world? Part of it is a huge gap between the rich and poor classes. That divide is growing in the U.S., and the average level of happiness among Americans is going down at the same time. Countries that have smaller gaps report much more happiness.
The Yellowstone Volcano

It wasn’t understood for a long time that much of Yellowstone is just a massive volcano. It’s so massive that if it were to go off, and it’s past due, it could destroy an enormous area of the U.S.
No Internet

Imagine the internet going out completely. It wouldn’t be a matter of any more social media. Most money would be unavailable, and communications would go down. We’re completely dependent on it, and we’d barely be able to do anything without it.
Terrorism

For those who are old enough to remember 9/11, you may remember how the country virtually shut down for a while. This was just one act of terrorism. A prolonged campaign of terrorism would cripple the States.
Companies Too Big to Fail

During the banking crisis of ‘08, some companies were determined to be so big that they would crash the U.S. economy if they failed. That led to the government bailing those companies out. We still have many companies that are too big to fail, and some of them are headed downward.
Crumbling Infrastructure

Any country with poor infrastructure doesn’t do well. When travel and basic activities are difficult, it drags a country down. While there has been some effort into repairing the infrastructure, there’s still a long way to go.
Climate Change

There are changes in the climate happening, and that’s true no matter what you believe may be the cause of it. As the warmer, fertile areas change temperatures, we may not be able to grow as much in the U.S. and fail to feed those we need to.
15 Startlingly Overrated Aspects of U.S. Culture

First things first, we love America. There are so many great parts of this amazing country, but…. that doesn’t mean that sometimes the people in America don’t hype up aspects of our culture to the point where we wonder why we are the only ones who think these things are just really overrated. But don’t worry- your not the only one who thinks these things are way overhyped.
