Vinegar
Vinegar is one of the most versatile items we can carry in our kitchens. This acidic liquid can come in handy when you run out of fabric softener, get a stain on a clothing item, or just need a cleaning spray to clean around your household. This cupboard staple can also be used as a hair softener and clarifier.
Coffee Grounds
If you’re an avid coffee drinker but not sure what to do with all your leftover coffee grounds, this hack is for you! Used coffee grounds can be saved and later used as compost for your garden, a scrub to scour pots and pans, a skin exfoliator, and so much more!
Another use that stood out for us was the grounds acting as a smell-neutralizer. If you happen to get a smelly fridge, then just place a bowl of coffee grounds inside, and that should cancel out any strange smells.
Bicarbonate of Soda
Bicarbonate soda is great to use in bakes, but it can also act as a trash can or cat litter box deodorizer. Furthermore, it can also treat the smells coming from your beloved trainers. If you happen to get any burn marks on pots or pans, then it can also easily scour away any of these unwanted stains.
Lemons
Lemons are another nearly everyday item that has more than just culinary uses. Lemon rinds and the leftover pith of squeezed lemons can do a great job of cleaning one’s microwave. Simply place the aforementioned lemon bits and some water in a microwave-safe bowl.
Heat the bowl on high for 5 minutes, or enough time for the water to boil and let off steam. Carefully take out the bowl from the microwave and wipe the inside of the microwave down with a damp cloth.
Citrus Peel
If you have some orange or grapefruit peel lying around and you want to make a DIY insect repellent, then look no further! Simply soak your citrus peels in some hot water, and once cooled, you can remove the peels and add the citrus-infused water to a spray bottle, and voila, you have yourself a chemical-free insect repellent.
Banana Peel
Did you know that banana peels make excellent shoe polishers? They also make superior plant food when the peels are soaked in water for an extended amount of time. Simply soak the peels in water for 2 to 4 days and strain the liquid to use as plant food. Your plants will thank you later.
