Technological advancements will likely change the job market over the next few years. While artificial intelligence and automation don’t translate to job losses, specific jobs will be affected.

Here are 13 jobs that will likely won’t be around in 20 years.

The demand for entry-level translators will decline in 20 years, thanks to advanced artificial intelligence. For example, ChatGpt can translate way better than Google Translate. Companies are investing in training their systems in foreign languages and improving language models, which will reduce the need for physical translators.

Thanks to technology, Store cashiers’ jobs will likely be obsolete in the coming years. With the rise of digital self-checkout options and the popularity of internet-based commerce stores, there’s a decline in the need for cashiers.

You can now find everything you need to plan for your travel online. With reliable internet, you can book your return trip flights, find affordable accommodation, and even organize excursions to your preferred destination. Technology will likely make travel agent jobs nonexistent in the coming years.

Telemarketers

Technology has led to the introduction of advanced AI algorithms that sound human and can make sales calls. These systems can also make compelling sales pitches by analyzing consumer data. Telemarketing jobs are likely to be obsolete in 20 years because AI has been shown to increase sales, and unlike humans, AI algorithms don’t need to take breaks between sales calls.

Referees play a critical role in determining the game’s outcome. However, their decisions are often questioned by both players and spectators. Some experts believe technology will replace referees’ jobs in 15-20 years. A good example is the video replays revealing whether a specific decision was a good or bad call.

Back in the day, taxi dispatchers were in demand as they would send cabs to where they were needed. However, those days are long gone, thanks to apps like Lyft and Uber that provide a convenient way to request a cab. The need for taxi dispatchers will decline over the years as they are in less demand.

Robotics have made things easier by lowering production costs and maximizing efficiency. Unfortunately, that has also reduced the need for assembly line workers. Research shows that over three million manufacturing jobs have been lost since 1947.

Robotics will likely replace assembly line workers in the next decade, and only those with industry-specific technical skills will survive in this industry.

An Oxford Martin study reveals a 90% chance that postal worker jobs will be automated in 20 years. The massive layoffs are due to recent declines in mail volumes as more people are now communicating online and paying their bills.

Automating tasks like sorting mail is also leading to massive layoffs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that employment for mail clerks and sorters will fall by 49% in 20 years.

An article by Harvard Business Review reveals that in 2000, there were over 5,000 floor traders on the New York Stock Exchange. However, there are fewer than 400 traders now, as most of their jobs have been replaced by running trading algorithms.

New cognitive technologies will likely lead to more staff reductions in the trading industry, especially with the introduction of artificial intelligence. AI can perform transactions accurately and faster than humans, which has led to a decline in trading jobs.
