If you’re a Millennial, you’re probably so over being blamed for most of the world’s ills, even though your parents or their parents deserve most of the blame. So let’s vent a little and share some lies we were fed and which can’t go away soon enough.

Spoiler Alert: these are all lies, and none of them are true.

The Boomers Will Retire Soon, and the Job Market Will Get Better

Actually, they aren’t. Maybe it’s the economy, or maybe it’s because they won’t let go. Either way, they’re strangling Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z while leaving us with their political feuds.

Yes, there are predators online. Yes, it makes sense to learn how to spot and avoid them. But the vast majority are just looking to make connections, find some good deals, and have a little fun.

It’s a great sentiment, but never take it for granted. Accounts can lose value, and circumstances can change. Go into college with the idea that any help is welcome but that you might be on the hook for the full bill when it’s all over.

Statistically, college grads earn more over their lifetimes. That’s an average, though. Many people learn a trade or start a business and end up earning more than the average college grad does.

What do you say to this? What was even the motive? Maybe it was a way of saying the world got too complicated and things used to be much simpler. So, was it just a cleverer way of saying everything was better when our parents were kids?

 

Staying Employed and Working Hard Guarantees a Comfortable Retirement

This might have been true when Boomers were coming of age and there were factory and union jobs creating stable, middle-class incomes. A lot has changed since then, though. Company loyalty toward dedicated workers is far less common than it used to be. Many people have to work well past retirement age now.

 

Truth and Justice Always Win Out in the End

We want this to be true since deceit and injustice are so common and harmful. Unfortunately, bad people often get away with the things they do and never face any meaningful consequences.
