Americans hear a lot from other countries about what they’re doing wrong. It’s true that we have a unique way of doing things and that we certainly aren’t perfect. But, some things that we get scorn for are things that many of us secretly love and appreciate.

The Need for Ice

Why do you need ice all the time? Why do your drinks need to be cold? That’s just the best way to serve a drink. We love cold drinks, and it doesn’t matter if it’s freezing outside.

Americanized Foreign Foods

We love food from virtually every country, and we’re tired of hearing that it’s not authentic. Many of our foreign foods are highly Americanized dishes that are more for the palate of Americans, and that’s the way we like it.

Our Car-Centric Lifestyles

We get a lot of heat for everyone who owns a car and has a car as the best way to travel. Public transportation isn’t found everywhere, and people have to get around. Plus, we just love our cars.

When someone from outside the U.S. eats in a restaurant in the U.S., they’re often shocked by the portion sizes. When we see a large portion size, we see that we’ve gotten a good value for our money and maybe even another meal later.

Talking About States Like They’re Countries

Many foreigners wonder why we always list a state when asked where we’re from. After all, it’s all one country. What they don’t understand is that each state has its own culture, and we love all the variety.

Some foreigners think we have too big of a military and that we interfere in other countries too much. We love our military, and we love that we don’t at all worry about being invaded by another country.

We’re Nice

When we go abroad, we act like we do at home by smiling at strangers and making small talk with anyone we meet. This isn’t the norm in most other countries. Sometimes, we’re called fake because others don’t understand why we’re being so friendly.

We Drink Too Many Sodas

Sure, sodas aren’t the healthiest thing you could drink. However, they do tend to be the tastiest. No meal doesn’t go well with a soda, and that includes breakfast.
