Those who have high incomes make a big impact on their local communities. It can change the housing market, lead to more demand for services, and raise the tax base. According to the IRS, a high-income taxpayer makes at least $200,000.

Certain areas have more wealth coming in, making them alternatives to the areas where wealth is established. The largest 345 cities in the U.S. were ranked to find the ones where the one-year growth of high-income households was the highest, according to SmartAsset. The growth of high-income households was measured from 2021 to 2022.

Spokane Valley, Washington

From 2021 to 2022, this area had a growth of its high-income households of 183.3%. More than 1,510 high-income households were added to the population of this beautiful city.

Allentown, Pennsylvania

This city had a growth of high-income households of 163.6%. The number of households in the area that are high-income changed from 1.1% of the population to 2.9% of those in the area.

Evansville, Indiana

The high-income households grew by 150% in this small city. This was the addition of 816 high-income households, taking the percentage of them from 1% to 2.5% of the population.

Killeen, Texas

The number of households in Killeen making at least $200,000 went from 1.3% of households to 3.2%. This is a jump of 1,200 households in this category or 146.2% growth.

San Tan Valley, Arizona

This is an area where there are a lot of high-income households. The population went from 4.1% of these households to a full 10%. This was a growth of 2,344 of these households.

Springfield, Massachusetts

This city saw an increase of 141.7% in its high-income households. These households went from being 2.4% of the population to 5.8%, an increase of 2,103 of these households.

New Haven, Connecticut

Connecticut is known for its high-income households for good reason. New Haven saw a 136.4% increase in these households. The city went from 4.4% of households being high-income to 10.4%.

Manchester, New Hampshire

In one year, Manchester added 2,620 high-income households. This brought the percentage of these households from 4.1% to 9.6%. This is a growth of 134.1% of the high-income population.

Jackson, Mississippi

The first Southern city on the list, Jackson saw a 125% increase in its high-income households. These residents grew from 2% to 4.5% of the population, adding 1,554 households.

Palmdale, California

Palmdale had its high-income households go from 6.2% to 13.6% of the population. This included the addition of 3,306 of these households to the population. This is growth of 119.4%.

Dayton, Ohio

Dayton has seen a rise in household incomes of $200,000 or more by 115.4%. The number of households in this category grew by 1,056. These went from being 1.3% of the population to 2.8%.

Surprise, Arizona

Surprise! This Arizona city has seen its share of high-income households go from 5.3% to a whopping 10.7%. This is the addition of 3,085 of these households or growth of 101.9%.

El Monte, California

El Monte has nearly doubled its number of high-income households, going from 3% to 5.8% for a growth of 93.3%. During this time, the number of these households grew by 879.

The number of households that can be categorized as high-income grew in High Point by 1,776. This is a growth rate of 92.3%. These households went from being 3.9% to 7.5% of the population.

Many California cities have seen a dramatic increase in their numbers of high-income households. This city went from 2.3% of its households being high-income to 4.3%. This is the growth of 87%.
