A lot of things factor into whether a country is a happy one or not. Happiness can be different when it comes to various ages. In some areas, older people are happier. In others, younger people are. This is a look at the happiness of people under 30 in various countries.

Sometimes, there’s a big difference between a country’s overall happiness ranking and its ranking for people under 30. According to Visual Capitalist, these are the countries where young people are the happiest.

Lithuania

Lithuania ranks number one for the happiness of people under 30, but only 19th for the happiness of the total population. That means the younger people are far happier than the older ones.

Israel

Israel ranks high on the happiness scale both for young people and for people overall. The country is a happy place in peacetime. It’s in the top five for the happiness of its people of all ages.

Serbia

Serbia is a country with a very happy under-30 crowd. However, the other generations are nowhere near as happy. While it ranks third for those under 30, it ranks 37th for all ages. This is a country with one of the biggest differences between these two numbers of any country on this list.

Iceland

People in Iceland are so happy that those over 30 rank slightly happier than those under 30. It’s a clean and safe country that has epic scenery to enjoy, likely contributing to the happiness of those who live there.

Denmark

Denmark is another place where the average happiness of all ages is a little bit better than the happiness of those under 30. The country ranks second in the world when all ages are factored in.

Luxembourg

In Luxembourg, young people and older people have about the same amount of happiness. It’s a country that has a lot of great social programs that keep many people from worrying too much.

Finland

Finland ranks number seven when it comes to young people’s happiness, but it ranks number one in the world when you look at the happiness of the whole population.

Romania

Romania has a huge gap between everyone’s happiness and the happiness of young people. People under 30 are happy to be there, but the population overall ranks 32nd in happiness.

Netherlands

The young people aren’t quite as happy as the population overall, but it’s close. People there benefit from a strong economy and plenty of social safety nets that can make life less stressful.

Czechia

People under 30 here are much happier than the overall population which includes all ages. Younger people may not worry much about the difficult economy in this historic country.

Costa Rica

Beaches, jungles, safety, tourist money, what’s not to be happy about? The happiness of those under 30 and over 30 are very much in sync. It’s a happy place to be overall.

Austria

What is it about the Alps that leads to happier lives? This is another Alpine country that ranks high for under-30 happiness, and it ranks even higher for the total population.

Croatia

The gap between the happiness of everyone in Croatia and the young people of Croatia is extremely high. It ranks 14th for the happiness of young people and 63rd when it comes to everyone’s happiness.

Slovenia

Like several other countries in Eastern Europe, young people tend to be happy here. The entire population as a whole is slightly less happy but still high on the happiness list.
