There definitely comes a time when you realize that there are certain changes you need to make in your life. It’s not because you’re doing something bad or wrong, but because you realize that while life is good, you are kind of in a rut that needs to be changed.
So, I changed a few habits and started doing a few things that have transformed my life and that will continue into 2025.
Taking a Walk
Every day, at around noon (I set an alarm on my phone to remind me), I take a walk around the block. This is a short walk- it takes ten minutes tops, but no matter the weather, I head out and walk briskly around the block. I work from home, so often, I sit all day and never head outside.
This daily walk has me outside, breathing fresh air, getting me moving, and making me feel so much more energized and awake. It has replaced my afternoon cup of coffee.
Drinking Juice
I started drinking juice. Now, before all the health-conscious people come for me- hear me out! I was (probably still am) a soda addict. I love drinking soda, and as we know- this is pretty bad for you.
So I started making myself a cup with a little bit of juice mixed with water and seltzer. This little bit of juice gives me that sugar I still crave but helps me drink more water and seltzer- and I drink a lot less soda!
Reading a Book Before Bed
Like many people, I spend way too much time on my phone. Doing this right before bed is a great way to keep you from sleeping well.
I take a book and put it on my nightstand- Before I go to sleep, I read for a few minutes, and it has helped me fall asleep much more quickly. Sometimes, I get so enthralled with a book that I skip the phone scrolling altogether.
Chewing Gum
Speaking of bad nightly habits- late-night snacking was not doing great things for my health or my waistline.
I started chewing gum after dinner instead of reaching for those snacks. I used to get hungry at night, but after a few days of this, I didn’t even want to reach for the chips or candy.
Buying Cut Fruit
I always looked at pre-cut fruit as a waste of money. They do charge quite a bit for something I can easily do myself. The problem? I wasn’t doing it myself, and I was reaching for easier snacks instead of cutting up melon. When I buy fruit that is already cut, I find myself reaching for that much more quickly.
Making a Big Pot of Soup
This is not quite a daily habit, but it affects me every day. Once a week, I make a large pot of soup and keep it in my fridge for lunch or snacks throughout the whole week. I find that eating smaller meals throughout the day (healthy food!) makes me less hungry, gives me more energy, and cuts down on those extra snacks.
Set a Timer to Clean
Every night, my house is a mess, and it seems like such a daunting task. I set a timer for ten minutes to clean up. My goal isn’t to clean the whole house but rather to just clean for ten minutes. This seems way more manageable and isn’t as “scary.” often, focused cleaning for ten minutes is enough time to pretty much clean the whole house.
