About 40 million Americans have a disability. This means that they need to have access to the same activities as everyone else.

The accessibility of a state depends on a lot of factors. The factors checked for this list include the local hospitals, the expenditure on healthcare, activities that are wheelchair accessible, and other aspects that make a society accessible. According to NowPatient, these are the most accessible states.

Rhode Island

The smallest state is the most accessible for those with disabilities. It receives an accessibility score of 7.21 out of 10. It has a lot of accommodations for people who need them to allow them access to activities and services.

Louisiana

With an accessibility score of 7.02, Louisiana has a lot of hospitals and plenty of places with wheelchair access. It also has good per-capita healthcare spending, though health insurance can be pricey.

Maine

For people living with a disability in Maine, there are a lot of activities they can do. The state has a lot of wheelchair-accessible restaurants and plenty of healthcare spending per capita. It has a score of 6.96.

Hawaii

Hawaii has a score of 6.73 for its extremely high wheelchair accessibility, particularly in restaurants, and its low cost of health insurance. The state also has decent healthcare spending for citizens.

Wyoming

This state has a very high number of hospitals per capita, and it has an acceptable level of wheelchair accessibility for activities. It has good healthcare spending per capita, but its health insurance costs are very high. Its score is 6.61.

South Carolina

This Southern state has relatively inexpensive health insurance and a huge number of restaurants that are wheelchair accessible. It doesn’t, however, have very much healthcare spending per capita. It gets a 6.11.

Alaska

This state has plenty of hospitals per capita, and it has very high healthcare spending per capita. It could be stronger when it comes to wheelchair-accessible restaurants. It has a score of 6.08.

Kentucky

The Bluegrass State has an acceptable amount of healthcare spending for its citizens and has very low health insurance costs. However, it is somewhat lacking in wheelchair accessibility for activities. It earns a 6.02.

Minnesota

Minnesota ties with Kentucky with a 6.02. The state has low-cost health insurance and plenty of healthcare spending per capita. It also has a large number of wheelchair-accessible restaurants.

New Hampshire

With high healthcare spending and the lowest health insurance costs on this list, this state has earned a 5.93. It has a high number of wheelchair-accessible restaurants, but it has a very low number of wheelchair-accessible activities.
