Everyone should learn new skills to help them live a full life and take advantage of all their talents.
Preply has done a study on the skills Americans are most eager to learn this year. People are trying to learn various specialized skills to enrich their lives. Learning a new skill can open a person up to a different lifestyle or help them improve themselves.
They surveyed 2,502 Americans on their experiences with learning new skills. Respondents ranged in age from 18 to 76 years old and were 48% female, 50% male, and 2% nonbinary.
These were the skills they really wanted to learn:
Cooking and Baking
When people learn to cook and bake, they make it possible to have much healthier meals that also cost less. It can also be fun to spend some time in the kitchen working on a new creation.
Budgeting
This is an important skill that everyone should have. A lot of people are taking the time to create budgets to keep themselves on track financially. This can lead to being in a much better financial position.
Home Repairs and Maintenance
When you can fix things yourself, it’s a skill that will keep paying off forever. Learning these skills can save you a lot of money and hassle over hiring someone else to do the repair and maintenance work.
Investing
Anyone with the money to do so should at least look into investing. With high inflation, the worth of a dollar goes down rapidly if it isn’t put into stocks and bonds that can help it grow over time.
Video Games
Some people want to improve their video game skills or learn to play a new game. Having better skills can help people enjoy their video game hobby more and perhaps even be competitive with others.
Time Management and Productivity
Having good time management skills can make you far more productive. Many people are trying in 2024 to improve this skill so they can get more done in less time for a better work-life balance.
Coding and Programming
These are useful skills that can help people to get ahead in their careers or to start a whole new one. It’s also helpful to be able to code and program for people who want to run websites or create software for fun.
Writing
Writing is a skill that can be used both in business and in personal communications. Many people like to engage in creative writing and create their very own worlds and characters.
Car Repairs and Maintenance
If you worry about how much car repairs and maintenance cost, you can learn to do many of those tasks yourself. This can help you keep your car in better repair and could even mean a new career.
Weightlifting and Bodybuilding
These skills help keep people in better physical condition and give them self-confidence. Many people are practicing these skills with lofty physical goals in mind.
Needlework
Being able to quilt, crochet, knit, and embroider means there’s no end to what you can create. This is great for making home goods as well as very personal gifts for other people.
Gardening and Landscaping
These skills can help you to grow anything from herbs for cooking to pretty flowers to fruits and vegetables. Striving for these skills can make it possible to have a much greener, fresher home and yard.
Painting and Drawing
There are few things more creative than painting and drawing. These skills can be used for life by those who want to show off their skills or to entertain themselves with a hobby they can be proud of.
Leadership and Management
People who want to get ahead in their careers often invest in learning these essential skills. There are many ways to learn these skills, and they often come in handy in many aspects of life.
Hiking and Camping
For an inexpensive vacation, you can’t beat camping. For a great time for little or no money, there’s hiking. If you build the skills for both, you always have something great to do for little cost.
