Arizona
This state isn’t one most people associate with wildfires, but it’s had the biggest growth of them. In 2022, more than 147,000 acres burned here. In 2023, more than 218,000 acres burned, a growth of more than 70,000 acres.
North Carolina
In 2022, just 11,100 acres burned in wildfires in this state. In 2023, this number had ballooned to more than 70,300 acres. It had a growth in acres burned of more than 59,100 acres year over year.
Louisiana
Down in the bayou, wildfires have grown considerably in the last year. In 2022, about 17,500 acres were burned. In 2023, that number jumped to 52,800. This is a growth of more than 35,300 acres.
Kentucky
In the Bluegrass State, there were 17,800 acres burned in 2022. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the next year this had increased to 47,600 acres. This is 29,700 acres more than the year before.
California
California is known for its wildfires, and their damaging effects have increased significantly. The number of acres burned went from 315,300 acres in 2022 to 344,800 in 2023. This is 29,400 more acres.
Virginia
Virginia is another place that isn’t known for wildfires, though they do happen. The number of acres burned was just 4,400 in 2022. By the next year, this had jumped to 20,500. It had increased by about 16,100 acres.
West Virginia
This state went from virtually no acres burned to an enormous number. In 2022, just 19 acres burned. In 2023, this number skyrocketed to 14,900 acres. This is a growth of more than 14,800 acres.
Mississippi
Mississippi has had significantly more acres burned year over year. In 2022, the number was 33,100 acres. The next year, this had grown to 42,200 acres. This is an increase of more than 9,100 acres.
Tennessee
More than 8,200 acres burned in wildfires in the Volunteer State in 2022. In 2023, this number had grown to about 17,000 acres. The number of burned acres had grown by more than 8,700.
Minnesota
Only about 2,000 acres burned in wildfires here in 2022. In 2023, this number had increased to 8,400 acres. The wildfires there had burned 6,300 more acres year over year.
