Some countries aren’t very open to foreigners, especially when people want to immigrate to those countries. Others are highly friendly to those who want to move there. Many of those countries have a high percentage of their population that is immigrants.

These are the top countries that welcome immigrants to come and stay.

Insider Monkey ranked the most accepting countries for immigrants based on how many immigrants they currently host. However, since the number of migrants living in a country doesn’t explain how much population percentage they comprise, they also explored the said countries’ migrant stock in total population. Then, they graded these nations based on their number of migrants and the percentage of their population these immigrants make. To get composite scores for the most accepting countries for immigrants, they averaged their grades and ranked them in ascending order.

The data sources for this study were the Migration Data Portal, Knomad Database, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Report 2022, Pew Research Center, World Development Report 2023: Migrants, Refugees & Societies, and Gallup Poll, among others.

Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has policies that make it friendly to immigrants. There are 13.5 million migrants inside the country. Immigrants make up a full 38.6% of the country’s population. Most of them come to the Kingdom from Southeast Asia.

United Arab Emirates

The UAE has the highest percentage of its population that are immigrants. They make up 88.1% of the UAE’s population and represent 8.7 million people. Many of them come from India and Pakistan.

United States of America

As a country built by immigrants, the USA has 50.6 million of them inside its borders. About 15% of the total population of the country are immigrants, many from Mexico and China.

Germany

As the European country with the highest population, and much of its population is made up of immigrants. About 18.8% of the population are from elsewhere, making up 15.8 million immigrants. Many of them come from Turkey and Poland.

Canada

Canada has immigration policies that have ramped up immigration to this enormous country. About 22% of its population is now made up of immigrants, representing eight million people. Most of them are from India and China.

Australia

Australia sees a lot of immigration from the U.K., China, and India. Currently, there are 7.7 million immigrants in the country, making up just over 30% of the population of the country.

United Kingdom

About 9.4 million immigrants are living in the U.K. right now. This is about 13.8% of the population. The majority of them have come from India, Pakistan, Poland, and EU nations.

Russia

Russia seeks out skilled migrants to make up for its declining population. About 8% of the population is made up of immigrants. These are 11.6 million that largely come from Ukraine, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

France

France has seen a surge in immigration that is coming from various areas of Africa as well as the rest of Europe. About 13% of the population is now immigrants, making up 8.5 million people.

Spain

Spain has policies that are immigrant-friendly and have been attracting immigrants from Morrocco, Romania, and Latin America. About 6.8 million immigrants live in this nation, making up 14.6% of the population.

Kazakhstan

There are 3.7 million migrants in this country that are seeing a lot of immigrants from Uzbekistan, China, and Tajikistan. Immigrants make up almost 20% of the total population of the country.

Jordan

About 3.5 million migrants have come to Jordan, including 675,000 refugees from Syria. The country has long been a place to go to escape regional wars. About 33.9% of its population are immigrants.

Italy

About 10.6% of the population of Italy is made up of migrants. There are 6.4 million of them living in this country steeped in ancient beauty. Many of them come from Romania and Morocco.

Ukraine

Migrants from Russia, Belarus, and several former Soviet states have been streaming into Ukraine up until lately. As the war with Russia began, the immigration into the company has slowed down significantly. About five million immigrants make up 11.4% of the country’s population.

Turkey

Turkey has the highest number of refugees, with four million. They make up two-thirds of the six million migrants in the country. About 7.2% of the population is made up of immigrants. They come from all around the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
