14 States That People Are Flocking To In 2024

The population became lower during the pandemic in many areas as death rates went up and immigration was down. However, now that the pandemic is over and immigration has picked up, many states have seen a noticeable population growth.

The states that have seen the biggest population growth during this time are scattered across the country and range from sparse states to highly populated ones.

Texas

As more and more companies have started moving to Texas, the people have followed. In early 2020, Texas had a population of 29.14 million. By mid-2023, the state had 30.50 million people, a growth of more than 450,000 people.

Florida

More and more people are seeking out the Sunshine State for its weather and many opportunities. In the spring of 2020, the state had 21.53 million people. By the summer of 2023, the population was 22.61 million. This is an addition of more than 365K people.

Georgia

Georgia has been on the minds of many people as the state has grown since the pandemic. In early 2020, it had 10.71 million people. As of mid-2013, it had 11.02 million, an addition of 116K.

South Carolina

There’s something about the coastal state of South Carolina that’s been drawing people in. In April 2020, the state had a population of 5.11 million. It then grew by more than 90K people to have 5.37 million in mid-2023.

Tennessee

Early 2020 saw a population of 6.91 million in Tennessee as the pandemic started. However, it quickly grew by more than 77K people once the pandemic was over in July of 2023.

Arizona

More people are yearning for those desert breezes, leading to a population growth of 65.6K people since the pandemic. It started with about 7.15 million in April of 2020 and had grown to 7.43 million by the middle of 2023.

Virginia

There are a lot of opportunities in Virginia, and more people are now taking advantage of it. In early 2020, the state had 8.63 million people before it grew by 36,000 to 8.71 million by mid-2023.

Colorado

In the early days of the pandemic in 2020, Colorado had a population of 5.77 million. Three years later, it had grown to 5.87 million people. This is an addition of 36K people to this mountainous state.

Utah

This beautiful desert state has attracted 36K more people since the pandemic. When it began in early 2020, the state’s population was 3.27 million. By the time mid-2023 rolled around, it had grown to 3.41 million.

Idaho

With many more opportunities becoming available in Idaho, the state is significantly growing in population. Between April 2020 and July 2023, the state had added 125K people for a total population of 1.96 million.

Delaware

This small state has grown by 1.2% since the pandemic began. The state started at 989K people in early 2020. By the middle of 2023, Delaware’s population had grown to 1.03 million people.

North Carolina

This populous state has grown noticeably since the pandemic. In early 2020, it had a population of 10.43 million. From that time to mid-2023, the population grew to 10.83 million, a growth rate of 1.3%.

Ohio

From early 2020 through the end of 2023, this land-locked state grew by about 86K people. It began at 11.78 million people, according to the 2020 census. By the end of 2023, it had 11.79 million people.

Missouri

The Show-Me State has grown significantly from the start of the pandemic. It began in 2020 with 6.15 million residents. By the end of 2023, it had built up to 6.19 million people.
