15 States Where People Probably Haven’t Filed Taxes Yet

No one loves doing their taxes, but there’s a hard deadline for finishing them. Many people procrastinate on their taxes until it’s close to the deadline. Others get theirs out of the way quickly to get the matter settled.

Some states have residents that are far more likely to procrastinate on filing. About 25% of people don’t feel like they’re ready to file their taxes. About 29% of citizens say they’re procrastinating. According to IPX 1031, these are the states with the highest numbers of tax procrastinators.

Wyoming

Wyoming may not have much in the way of population, but they have a lot of procrastinators. The people of this state aren’t looking forward to doing their taxes and trying to avoid doing so.

Vermont

Vermont is an opinionated place, and those opinions include filing their taxes. They drag their feet and hope that taxes will just do themselves in some cases. Hint- they won’t.

Alaska

The cold in Alaska may cause people to not want to bundle up and go mail their returns. Of course, you don’t have to go outside to file online. They’ll have to find another excuse to procrastinate on their filings.

North Dakota

As in Alaska, it’s pretty cold in North Dakota around tax time. That’s still no excuse to keep putting off tax filing, though. Residents of this state need to go ahead and get it over with.

Delaware

Delaware is a historic state that sees a lot of people trying to put off doing their taxes. The state sees a lot of people getting busy doing other things so that they can keep putting off those taxes.

South Dakota

In South Dakota, there is no state income tax, so what are the people of this state so busy avoiding? It seems like with easier filing and less owed in taxes, they’d want to get it all done.

Rhode Island

The smallest state is a place that has plenty of procrastinators all avoiding filing. For such a small state, they have a lot of taxes to pay, and they need to get it all taken care of.

Montana

In Montana, taxes are due in April, just like every other state. It’s important to get them in on time and without mistakes. Montana residents would rather spend time doing just about anything else.

Hawaii

With the beauty of Hawaii around you, why would you want to sit down in front of a computer and do your taxes? The people of Hawaii feel the same way, and they have plenty to keep them busy rather than file.

Maine

For those who live in Maine, tearing themselves away from their delicious seafood long enough to do taxes isn’t preferred. However, residents of Maine will need to get around to them soon.

New Hampshire

In another state that doesn’t have state income taxes, it seems like filing taxes would be easier here. That may be true, but it’s still a terrible chore if you ask any of the procrastinators of this state.

Nebraska

The residents of this landlocked state know just how important it is to get their taxes done properly and submitted on time. They just have a lot of things to do right now. They’ll do it tomorrow.

West Virginia

In largely rural West Virginia, taxes aren’t anyone’s idea of a good time. With so much to do in West Virginia, doing taxes may be pretty low on the list of things people want to spend time on.
